Project description

This state of the art Primary Care Centre was built to accommodate the GPs and staff of the Rysseldene and Rhoslan NHS Surgeries in Colwyn Bay. The building provides excellent modern facilities designed to enable the Practices to provide a wide range of integrated healthcare services for over 18,000 patients.

The development, which was completed in July 2016, forms part of the Betsi Cadwaladr Univerity Health Board’s strategy for the delivery of improved primary care services in the locality.

The site

The former Conwy Road Primary School was chosen as the preferred site option following an extensive site search. The central location is excellent and easily accessible for patients of both Practices. The benefits to the local community in redeveloping a former school into a Primary Care Centre has a synergy and was welcomed by all concerned.

The building

The original part of the old School is a listed building which had to be retained but the site also provided adequate scope for a redevelopment and extension. The completed Primary Care Centre extends to around 1350 m2 and includes 59 parking spaces and a community pharmacy.
