This Haven Health project, at around 6000 square metres, is one of the largest Primary Care Developments in the UK.
It is an exciting and innovative scheme providing accommodation for 4 local GP Practices (17 GPs), LHB community trust and voluntary sector facilities together with a health food café, dental school and a pharmacy. This was the first healthcare project to be presented to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Design Commission and it has received great acclaim.
A three-and-a-half acre site was secured from the Local Authority for the development. The site is adjacent to a large Morrisons supermarket and is centrally located. It is accessible by public transport and provides ample parking facilities.
The building design, which makes a strong statement, is modern with an urban, industrial image, reflecting the character of Port Talbot with its industrial heritage. However, in accordance with our Haven Health philosophy, the interior has a light, modern and welcoming atmosphere which creates an attractive working environment for the staff who work within it and for the patients who visit it. The Resource Centre was officially opened on 19th November 2009 by the Welsh Minister for Health, Edwina Hart, complete with a local Welsh Male Voice Choir.
